Conveniences of the modern age
Feb. 5th, 2008 11:12 pmSo I can go to the nice genre bookstore, pick myself up a copy of Peter S. Beagle's "The Rhinoceros who quoted Nietsche and other odd acquaintances", flip through to the essay about "My Last Heroes", open up YouTube, type "brassens", open up Google and type "Brassens lyrics" and poof... there I am.
Take that, 1970. We may have Global Warming and Bird Flu here in 2000odd, but we have instant access to French music with subtitles too!
Also, I finally got to listen to "How you gonna keep 'em down on the farm, not that they've seen Paree?" and some old Tallulah Bankhead clips today. And a couple of Fletcher Henderson tracks. If your odd passions include 1920s music and showtunes, YouTube can be your new cheap best friend.
I have such a crush on Tallulah Bankhead. In the movie that plays in my head, it's her and Myrna Loy and Rosalind Russell and Katherine Hepburn, and then they invite me over for Mint Juleps and cucumber sandwiches with William Powell and Oscar Wilde. And possibly Mika, who I think Oscar Wilde would admire quite.
