Stupid, stupid bus. Heavy groceries.
Apr. 19th, 2008 09:24 pmI know that I am a big girl (and a reference type librarian!) and I could have looked up the bus schedule to ensure that the bus went by my house on this particular route.
But the facts are as follows.
6 days a week, the bus stops right by the grocery store on the way out, and right by my front door on the way back.
On the 7th day (that would be today, for those playing along at home), it stops right by the grocery store on the way out, and then ends its run 4 blocks from my house on the way home.
But only for the last, like, 4 hours of its run.
So, midnight on a Friday - bus stops by my house.
10PM on a Sunday? Bus stops right by my house.
Tonight, when I had 40 to 50 pounds of groceries - bus stops almost half a mile away.
I find this really irritating and arbitrary. Especially as the particular block that the bus ended its run on is not a very nice block on weekend nights. And I would not normally let myself walk that block carrying too many groceries to fight/run if necessary.
I actually emailed in a complaint, which I felt like a jerk for doing, but seriously - why the change in route just one night a week, and not even on Sunday, which I might expect because all the routes get shorter then. Or during the late night hours. It made me really mad.
The fact that this bothered me so much is a good measure of either a) how generally privileged my life is, or b) how much it scared me to walk those blocks at night weighed down by groceries, or c) how the bus driver refused to or could not answer my question about what the last run on Saturdays that stopped by my house was [I know, not his fault he doesn't speak fluent English] and then basically told me that he drove the bus all the time and he knew it stopped where it stopped and that was the end of it. Take your pick, I vote for a comprehensive d) all of the above. I just wanted to know so I could avoid getting stuck like that again. *grr*
