I've been really productive on the fiction-writing front this last week, and so not-so-productive on the essay writing front. Reading wise, I'm enjoying a binge of shojo manga, including my ongoing weakness for Boys Over Flowers (I'm a teen librarian == I have a professional excuse for this behavior!). I'm dipping into a book on bisexuality and feminism titled "Look Both Ways", which serendipitously (can I have synchronicity as an adverb? demonstrating synchronicity?) drops a quote by the local fantasy scene's own Elise Matthesen, so that was a very amusing connection.
I picked up my copy of Suzanne Brockman's latest Troubleshooter book at the library, and grabbed the first volume of Maison Ikkoku because someone where I work was mentioning it today. I'm still idly poking at the Burgermeister's Daughter, a history book that would be more engaging if any of its subjects were nice people (the writing is great, the subject matter interests me, but I'm not rooting for anyone as I read, which slows me down).
The Summer Reading Program is over, and I called the last round of prizewinners today. The 9 year olds play it really cool, but the six year olds are usually pretty excited to have won a free book and some stickers and what not.
I just got off the phone with
oniboots tonight who had some really good feedback for me on the first 10 chapters of my story. The only problem? I sooooo want to be done revising this for like, a month or so and work on Supherhero Girl instead. Must focus, blast the Metallica, and keep on whacking away. My friend also helped me find King James Bible quotes that snark on women, which was quite helpful. (Yes, this is kind of like finding coals in Newcastle, but my bible skills are rusty so the help was appreciated! [When it comes to bible quotes that snark on women, it's all about Paul.])
Also, my sister's birthday was three months ago, and I have yet to start making her present. She sent me all sorts of cool stuff which I've enjoyed very much for MY birthday, which is two months after hers. I am a bad sister.
