Bad plot. No biscuit.
Dec. 14th, 2008 11:38 amI'm very thankful that the romance novel world has (generally) moved past the "evil homosexual rapist" plots I used to run into a lot in novels published in the 1980s and before.
Now I'd like us to get over the idea that homosexual dudes are just waiting around to meet that one really hot woman and fall in love forever with her and have babies and stuff. There's a word for guys who are emotionally available to relationships with guys and to falling in love with a nice woman and having babies with her. They're called bisexual. Not homosexual, y'know? A few hot threesomes will not turn a gay guy into someone who wants to love a special lady and help her have many babies. He might be open to having a threesome with you to help you get pregnant or something, I suppose (like in Weetzie Bat - hi Weetzie! Good on you going after what you want in a loving sharing way!). But then afterwards he's still gonna like, y'know, guys.
I don't know why bisexual is a dirty word in romance novels. I really don't. But I think romance novels would be greatly improved by the more frequent use of this word.
That hot guy who sleeps with other guys and with the heroine and then falls for her is either bisexual or a figment of our imagination. Just saying.
