Writing - Juvenilia
Dec. 29th, 2009 10:18 pmI spent some of Christmas at my mom's house going through boxes of old saved paperwork that she'd put aside for us. It's very odd to see the chickens, scarecrows, Santas etc. made out of construction paper and wall paper and cotton balls and so forth that you made 20+ years ago all folded up and stored. All of my elementary school report cards, childhood immunization records. That sort of stuff. The odd journals that we kept in 2nd grade so that the teachers could write back to us while we practiced our sentence and paragraph skills.
I'm still looking for the notebooks with the novels I wrote in 3rd grade, but I found the first short story I wrote down, in 2nd grade. It was from a dream I had. I thought it was silly enough to share.
It was called "A Dream of Wonder." It's reproduced behind the cut with all original spelling, homonym errors, and capitalization issues. You can't see the little puffy clouds and strange brown lumpish mountain, but that's it.
( Juvenilia here, yar! )
So yes, my first short story was a) based on a dream, b) starred me as an unnamed Mary Sue, and c) was Bullfinch's Mythology / Wizard of Oz crossover fanfic!
