Day 18 - Favorite beginning scene in a book

This would be, I think, the opening scene from Nicobobinus, by Terry Jones.
It goes something like "This is the story of Nicobobinus, the boy who could do anything, and his friend Rosie, and how they set out one day to discover the land of dragons."
And then pretty much first thing we get Rosie showing up, and she's like, "Do you want to weed your front stoop?" to which Nicobobinus of course answers no, and so she's like, "ok, then, let's go find the Land of Dragons" and then they do.

This scene is completely excellent, and gets bonus points for tying itself back in to the story conclusion.

I foolishly gave away my childhood copy of Nicobobinus but a very good friend in college went searching online and found me a new one.  Which I was silly enough to lend to someone and I had to chase them down and extract it to get it back, so now I lend Nicobobinus to no one.  Buy your own copy or read mine while visiting, those are your options.  [The Michael Foreman illustrations are also choice, btw.]
