Books: Hold Me Closer, Necromancer
Jul. 19th, 2011 06:53 pmBoy, that was fun.
I love the decision to make the characters a bit older-than-teen, for the most part, as it frees up the plotting remarkably. For those who keep their eyes out for such things, I want to note that yes, the main characters have families. Complicated families, even, whose presence in the story matters.
Also, the dialogue that was meant to be witty actually sounded witty and well-paced to me.
The book moved along at a lovely sort of a pace, and the occasional villain-cam chapters weren't even particularly irritating, as they were clearly there just to share key plot info and not to create fake emotional stakes-raising.
Hold Me Closer, Necromancer: a good time with no nasty aftertaste. I'm sure I'll read a sequel if/when one shows up. I may even buy a copy or two as gifts for the sort of friend who might want to read such a book and wouldn't otherwise find it.
