Fun with language comprehension.

vcmwSometimes actually knowing the meaning of a word makes it harder to communicate.
I hopped the bus for one stop on my way home to give my hands a break from grocery bags full of cantaloupe, potatoes, apples, and other heavy sundries.
As I got off the bus a few blocks later, so did another gentleman.
The bus driver called "Aloha" to me as I got off the bus.
So I answered with "Mahalo" and waved as I walked off.
This seemed reasonable enough to me.
Other guy getting off the bus said to me "No! He said "Aloha.""
"Yes," I said, "so I said "mahalo.""
"Aloha means goodbye," other guy said.
"Umm, yes, I understood that, so I said thanks," I said.
"You just don't get it," other guy said.
At that point, I cut my losses and headed home with my groceries.
