Ok, so I took the 94 bus to Minneapolis today because I thought, "hey, I've been in town almost two weeks and have yet to set foot in downtown Minneapolis! Maybe I should leave St. Paul?" and that was ok. Managed to get on bus before rush hour and to delay getting back on bus at the other end of the trip until after rush hour.
I checked out the bottom floor of the new central Minneapolis Public Library, and it is just as pretty as it was in the brochures that I saw at PLA. And in the pictures that someone posted to Flickr. So that was cool.
But what was really cool was the sight I saw out the window of the 94 that caused me to hop off the bus early. Outside of the courthouse, on 4th Ave, I think (?), there's one of those little "places for office workers to drink coffee and smoke" parks. And it is full of these grassy berms. And on the berms are little sculptural guys. Round ones shaped like those walking M&M's from the commercials. And they are doing things like pushing little sculptural lawnmowers up the side of the berm, sunbathing on the berm, attempting to haul each other out of a soul crushing pyramid of metal that looks like a witch's sandcastle. There are little policemen and policewomen figures in cute lumpy metal who are hauling one of our M&M shaped heroes over their heads. You can tell they are policepeople due to how they have "I'm a sheriff in the old west" stars on their chests, and little hats such as a british policeperson might wear if they were in a show where they were being called a "bobby".
It was all very excellent in sort of an anthropomorphic, "Bone" comic strip way. It made me happy. I wished I was the sort of person with a cell-phone camera in my pocket to record it for posterity.
