So I know that a lot of the people out there are more computer/internet aware than I am (I spent the last four years reading novels and textbooks, and while I can use things, the bigger hardware/structure picture has always eluded me...), so I thought I would ask for suggestions.

Does anyone have any suggestions for websites or books or magazines/issues/articles on picking web hosts and domain registries? After taking a web design class last semester I'm sort of thinking it might be nice to think about having a real website - the kind that isn't just stored on a college/university student server - the kind with its own name and place to live.

But I find all this a bit intimidating. Learning CSS and XHTML seems pretty straightforward in comparison.

Any helpful thoughts? I don't even know what terms to search, since the obvious ones are pretty commercially saturated in the search results list.

Oh, I almost forgot. Though I'm dying under library listserv traffic as it is, any listservs or blogs I should subscribe to would also be welcomed. In regards listservs it would be awfully nice if they had a digest option though.

Thanks so much anyone with advice to offer. Now back to reading Megatokyo. Which, given how I want to be a YA Librarian, actually counts as "research". Tee-hee.
Definitely.
