"Nice" - a fine four letter word.
Dec. 9th, 2007 10:40 amProblematic usages of the word nice:
"Nice girls don't do that."
"He's such a nice boy."
"You're just too nice."
First of all you've gotta be automatically suspicious of any word that is posed as a negative quality for guys (He's just too nice) and a positive quality for girls (Nice girls don't do that).
Then there's the fact that as far as I can tell, being Nice is like being the good little boy in that Mark Twain story. The one who ends up eaten by wild beasts.
I mean, being a Nice Girl means being a victim, the kind of woman who wouldn't fight back (because nice girls don't know martial arts/carry guns/study self defense/kick a guy and run).
Being a Nice Guy means being a victim (because nice boys don't fight girls, even when the girls are mean and scary and abusive. because nice boys respect their families, fathers, and authority figures even when those authority figures take advantage of them).
