Brain hurts. Caffeine deprivation headache.
I made the horrible mistake of reading a really well written novel in the midst of my revisions.
Lonely Werewolf Girl by Martin Millar (Soft Skull Press) is really really good so far. It has an odd tone that I can't summarize well, but the mix of sorcery and fashion, liquor and laudanum, politics and murder is really well done.
The absolutely matter of fact tone that's used to describe everything (mundane and magical) adds to the convincingness of the magical parts.
It's also a) long, and b) addictive. So in addition to being depressed that my writing is not nearly so clear and concise, I'm also horribly distracted and eager to spend my day off curled up with the good book.
