Movie: Where the Wild Things Are
Jul. 20th, 2010 08:24 pmI got about 20 minutes in to this movie and gave up.
I know it was well-reviewed, but I think this kind of film depends on having some sympathy for the kid/protagonist. By ten minutes in to the movie, I wanted to shake the kid and point out to him that really, he didn't have it all that bad.
Then the pretty moments on the water with the boat soothed me. Then we got to the island, heard voices through trees with fire, and I turned to my husband and said, "what is this, some kind of Robert Bly drumming circle in the woods where all the guys talk about their feelings?" And then it turned out that yes, it was some kind of Robert Bly drumming circle in the woods where all the monsters talked about their feelings.
So I popped out the disc and sealed it back up in its wrapper, and now it's back on its way to the Netflix processing unit from whence it came.
