Books: Written for Children
Sep. 29th, 2010 07:34 pmI'm browsing through J R Townsend's "Written for Children" (mine is the 2nd revision, from the 80s? or late 70s? I picked it up at the book sale this fall). The main pleasure for me is reading through descriptions of books that I have read, or meant to get around to reading, or have for some reason always vaguely thought I wouldn't want to read.
Haggard, for instance - I have never read King Solomon's Mines. I have, on the other hand, read Swiss Family Robinson several times. I have read Gulliver's Travels, but never Robinson Crusoe. It's sort of random, my exposure to classic children's literature - much determined by what happened to be on the rarely-weeded small town library shelves of my childhood.
I am tempted to make a "reviewed in Written by Children" meme of the bold if you're read this, italicize if it you've read part of it type. It would be amusing.
