The local thrift store (the ReSTORE) had a copy of a Molly Ivins book I hadn't read yet, so I picked it up.  27 cents (including tax) very well spent.
If you are of a liberal bent, or enjoy humorous political writing whatever its bent, then Molly Ivins is really someone you should try.  Basically, she is (was, sadly now deceased) sort of to political essays what Cynthia Heimel is to essays about sex and relationships.  The titles are witty, the pacing is deft, and she makes you feel like she would have been a lot of fun at parties.

Also, she can write an obituary of some political person I've never heard of and make the whole thing so fascinating that by the time I'm done I want to go out and buy a biography of them, plus I've usually learned three or four new pieces of political information.

My sense is that under the masterful style this is someone who really really knew her politics inside out, back to front, and in all possible other orders.
