Brother's Grimm
Nov. 26th, 2006 07:47 pmAges ago I posted about how much I loved the film "The Brothers Grimm" by Terry Gilliam. I was talking with a friend who works at the U of MN on Thanksgiving, and it turns out that she's had a conversation with Jack Zipes (yes, that Zipes, aka editor of "Don't Bet on the Prince", etc...) about the film. And he has the same view of the film that I do! That it's a sort of essay on the development and collection of Germanic folklore at a specific time period - and that it does hold together as a very coherent discussion of that folklore, as opposed to as an action film. At least, this as reported by my friend, rather than as direct report. But I was just very happy to hear that someone like Jack Zipes had seen it that way too.
